Professional Roof Painting — Colorbond, Metal & Tile
Your roof is one of the hardest-working parts of your home, exposed year-round to Tasmania's coastal winds, UV, rain and temperature swings. A quality roof paint job doesn't just improve the look of your property — it extends the life of the roof, protects against rust and water damage, and adds real value.
At Taylors House Painting, we paint Colorbond and metal roofs as well as terracotta and concrete tile roofs right across Southeast Tasmania. Every job follows a thorough, multi-step process — we don't cut corners on preparation, because that's what makes the difference between a paint job that lasts a decade and one that starts peeling within a few years.
Our Roof Painting Process — Step by Step
Proper preparation is everything when it comes to roof painting. Here's exactly what we do on every job:
We start by walking the roof and assessing its condition — checking for rust spots, cracked or broken tiles, loose sheets, and any structural concerns. We'll talk you through what we find before any work begins.
On Colorbond and metal roofs, we go over every fixing point — tightening loose screws and replacing any that are corroded, missing, or stripped. This is a step many painters skip, but it's critical for keeping your roof weathertight.
We pressure wash the entire roof to remove dirt, lichen, moss, mould and chalking paint. Any hard-to-shift grime or biological growth is treated with mild cleaning chemicals to ensure a completely clean bonding surface. Paint simply won't stick properly to a dirty roof.
Any rust is treated with Ferronite Rust Converter — a tannin-based product derived from bark and certain trees. It chemically reacts with iron oxide to convert active rust into a stable compound that also functions as a primer, stopping the spread of corrosion before we apply paint. This step is especially important on coastal properties exposed to salt-laden air.
We apply a suitable primer to treated areas and any bare metal or exposed surfaces to ensure the topcoat bonds properly and performs as intended.
We apply a protective, professional-grade roofing paint — an elastomeric coating that expands and contracts with the roof through temperature changes, resists UV fading, repels water and provides long-lasting colour. Metal and tile roofs each receive coatings specified for their surface type.
Types of Roofs We Paint
Colorbond & Metal Roof Painting
Colorbond is the most common roof type across Southeast Tasmania and benefits enormously from repainting once the factory coating starts to fade, chalk or rust. We treat every rust spot thoroughly with Ferronite before coating, check all screws and flashings, and apply a high-build elastomeric metal roof coating that protects your investment for years to come.
Signs your Colorbond roof may need attention: visible rust spots, chalky or faded colour, paint flaking at the ridgeline, or screws that are working loose.
Terracotta & Concrete Tile Roof Painting
Tile roofs look great when freshly painted but can become porous, stained with lichen and faded over time. We pressure wash tiles thoroughly — often revealing the original colour underneath years of grime — and apply a flexible, breathable roof membrane coating designed specifically for tile surfaces. This seals the roof without trapping moisture underneath, which is critical to avoid problems down the track.
We also note any cracked or broken tiles during our assessment so these can be addressed before painting begins.
Why Repaint Your Roof?
- Extends the life of your roof by protecting against UV, rust and water ingress
- Stops rust from spreading on metal and Colorbond roofs
- Improves the kerb appeal and resale value of your property
- Reflective coatings can reduce heat gain and cooling costs in summer
- Seals porous tiles against moisture absorption
- Far more cost-effective than a full roof replacement
